How to Deploy a VM from an OVF on ESXi 6.7
This tutorial will show you how to import an OVF onto an ESXi 6.7 host using the web client.
Introduction
In a previous post, I wrote how to export an ESXi 6.7 virtual machine as an OVF. This tutorial will show you how to import an OVF onto an ESXi host.
Login to the ESXi Host
First of all, login to the web management interface of the ESXi 6.7 host by typing the IP address into a web browser.
Deploy a VM from an OVF
Right click Virtual Machines then click Create/Register VM.
Select Deploy a virtual machine from an OVF or OVA file then click Next.
Give the virtual machine a name then click Click to select files or drag/drop.
Locate the *.ovf and *.vmdk files that make up your VM, select them.
All the files should be listed, now click Next.
Select a datastore to store the virtual machine on, then click Next.
Select a port group to map to the VMs networks then click Next.
Click Finish to start deploying the VM.
Wait for the VM to finish deploying. You can see the progress of the files being copied in the recent tasks pane.
Once finished, the VM should power on.
Conclusion
This guide showed how easy it is to deploy virtual machines from OVF files on ESXi 6.7. In this guide, we used the web client of the ESXi host, which is useful for hosts not managed by vCenter.
