This error message appeared on ESX host, however, no other indication of any issues. Hardware monitor and any other monitoring systems are green.

err1

This issue occurs when the IPMI System Event log file is full, which triggers the alarm that monitors the log file.

To resolve the issue clear the IPMI SEL log file on ESX host.

  1. Connect to ESX host through SSH
  2. Check the SEL clock time:
 localcli hardware ipmi sel get
 IpmiSELConfig:
   Enabled: true
   Formatted-Raw:
   Last Added: 2020-04-26T20:04:29
   Last Cleared: 2016-08-12T05:41:38
   Maximum Records: 511
   Overflow: false
   Raw:
   Sel-Clock: 2020-05-01T18:31:43
   Total Records: 440
   Version: 0x51 (1.5)

Confirm that time is correct. If not, check KB1033725.

  1. Check that logging is disabled due to log size
 localcli hardware ipmi sel list
 Record:440:
   Record Id: 440
   When: 2020-04-26T20:04:29
   Event Type: 111 (Unknown)
   SEL Type: 2 (System Event)
Message: Assert + Event Logging Disabled Log almost full
   Sensor Number: 246
   Raw:
   Formatted-Raw:
  1. Clear the log
 localcli hardware ipmi sel clear
