vROps – vSphere Replication Management Pack

https://aocit.blog/vrops-vsphere-replication-management-pack/

Just wanted to to do a quick post on installing the vSphere Replication Management Pack. It installs like most other but I found one new thing that kinda makes the post worth it I guess.

You can find the management pack along with all the others on the VMware marketplace.

If you search for vSphere Replication you should find the management pack. Here is a direct link.

Once you check the page you see a bit further down on the page you can usually see the compatibility info.

In this case the mp is available with vrops up until 8.0.x. That is a bit of a let down on first sight.

However, as suggested you can check also on the VMware compatibility pages to see if it is compatible with newer versions.

There you find the more updated information and can see that it is compatible.

Having checked that you can install the Management pack in vROps. You log into vROps and go to the Administration tab on the top and the under Solutions in the left pane select Repository. At the bottom you can select to add extra management packs.

Simple click on add/remove and fid the package that you downloaded from the VMware Market Place. It has an extension .pak. once found and added click upload to stage the file, and then on next. Then Accept the EULA, And the content is uplaoded to the vROps solution

After a few moments you should get a message like this:

Click on Finish and you should see the new Content pack under “Other Management Packs”

One other thing that is good to know is, if you click on the three vertical dots you can click on “View Content” This gives you a chance to see what is included in the management packs.

Some Management Packs has a lot of things, some less things. In this case there’s a few dashboards a report and a few metric configs and some alert definitions.

The only thing that remains to do now is to configure the management pack to connect to the vSphere replication appliances and we should start getting some data.

This you do from the Administration tab also, and under Solutions, but under “Other Accounts. The new adapter for vSphere Replication should be listed here.

To configure this you will need the name of the vCenter where the appliance is registered and also a credential to connect to vSphere replication.

Once that information is supplied, validate the connection and click add. You should add both sites. Notice that I have changed the collector for the second site to the remote collector I have deployed there.

Now that this is done, you should start receiving data in the next 5 minutes (Default value).

If you go to Environment and check VRMS world you should get an overview of your vSphere Replication environment.

And just to show the dashboard also, after adding a test replication.

First the Replication Summary:

And the Replication Usage:

That’s it for now.
